Nedjma Hadj Benchelabi, Samaa Wakim and Samira Negrouche

Marseille / Bruxelles / Alger
Creation

Ten women artists from across the Mediterranean pool their knowledge and practices in a project that ventures off the beaten track to make their voices heard. Dancers, writers, performers, musicians and visual artists form a collective in constant motion—of ideas and of forms. Between spoken interventions and creative acts, it is their turn (“nawba”, نوبة in Arabic) to occupy the public stage.

For the first time in Marseille, Nedjma Hadj Benchelabi, Samaa Wakim and Samira Negrouche bring together seven artists who embody the richness and vitality of the contemporary Mediterranean and diasporic scene: Amina Abouelghar(Cairo/Brussels), Eman Hussein (Cairo/Zurich), Imane Elkabli (Marrakech), Nancy Mounir (Cairo), Noor Abed (Ramallah), Rym Hayouni (Tunis/Amsterdam) and Safaa Balouchi (Muscat).

In the wake of the film La Nouba des femmes du mont Chenoua by Algerian writer and filmmaker Assia Djebar—one of their tutelary figures—this chorus of women weaves a space of freedom around shared concerns, turning memory and fragility into modes of resistance. For these ten artists, it is an opportunity to share their practices within an intergenerational and interdisciplinary collective conceived as a constellation, a “family of allies in meaning.”
